Hello Stephanie,
Please don't appologize for being a "rookie" gardener or feel that you are
asking a "stupid question". After many years of gardening I've learned that
every growing season I face new and interesting challenges. Daily the people
in my village, and may strangers visiting from out of state, stop by my
garden, which is about 8 feet off the main road, and we discuss our gardening
successes and follies. I enjoy your questions and the many answers that
follow.
My suggestion for trellised veggies and flowers is to weave the plant over
the top of the trellis and down the other side. The plant isn't going to mind
growing down any more than it minded growing up. You may also consider
putting a slanted trellis against the top of your present trellis for the
plant to follow down. This makes a beautiful canopy or tent-like effect.
Sincerely,
Lorrie
Vermont
