I don't believe one can get rid of ants without harsh, deadly chemicals. I
mean think about it. There are probably as many ants in the garden as there
are stars in the sky. True, they are linked to spreading aphids, etc. In some
instances ants are actually beneficial. Ants are believed to help with
pollination in some areas of the U.S.
Instead of trying to kill them, try just keeping them from the area where you
don't want ants. Line your garden area or the plants being affected with
tansy, pennyroyal, or spearmint. My neighbor grows tansy. I lay the very
large plants along the affected area. I also lay one tansy stem with leaves
in the window of the bathroom (between the screen and window, since in spring
and summer I seem to have ants show up on the sink area. It works like a
charm. I see no ants when using tansy.
Good luck,
Lorrie
