sterilzing and composting

Hi SFT'ers,
So in reclaiming an area of my yard for my own, I have taken all of
the overgrown weeds (dandelions, sticky weed, and other various
nasty's) and wrapped them up with dried leaves and grass clippings
into a black plastic burrito(uumbo sized!) in hopes that this will
heat up the seed enough to keep it from germinating in my coming
beds. Then, placing an additional tarp over it, holding it in place
with rocks for weights as additional insulating properties. Checking
the temperature with thermometer, the outside temperature (on the
tarp) was 102 degrees, daytime temp being 75-80, can I assume the
inside was hot enough to kill the seed? It's been cooking for about
three-four days now and have added more stuff, still smells green and
hot after checking interior heat level yesterday by touch, not
instrument. Plan to use thermometer today.
Anyone know how hot it needs to be to kill off seed?

One more question to the puritains out there, as an organic
gardener, getting questionable materials from my garbage collector
(who also hauls yard clippings and stuff for his customers), is it
feasable to sterilize the clippings in this same manner? The Black
Plastic Burrito method? Does anyone know how hot for
chemical/pesticide sterilzing? Any and all insights are welcome. If
anyone has had experience with flower essences and plant health,
working with nature spirits and devas I am gathering information and
am interested in your personal experiences. I also promise not to
laugh:)

Thanks,
Melissa in Eugene.
