Hilling Potatoes

I am trying potatoes for the first time (Yukon Gold). I know that you are
supposed to "hill" them.....I did that, up to the first leaves, but they
are now 12 inches above the "hill line." Am I supposed to cover up the
lower leaves with soil too?
