Racoons and compost

We also have raccoons in our neighborhood, but have never seen them in
our compost pile which is left uncovered and quite accessible to them.
However, they sure liked the cat food when we had outside cats. So did
the possums. Actually, the compost rots so quickly and is mixed with
other rotting materials that I don't think it is much of a temptation to
them especially if they could raid a garbage can or dog food dish with
less work. If they did get in occasionally, we'd probably enjoy watching
from a safe distance. How much could they eat? As long as they don't
make an attempt to attack, I wouldn't worry about them.
