Yes you can remove the sucker -- snap it off, or cut it off if it's really
too big.   To root it, well, there are several ways.  For me the easiest is
to just stick it in the ground, give it a little shade at first, and keep
the dirt moist.  It might take a bit of time for it to start going, but
then it will take off.  You could also try to get it to root in water, but
I find that mine will rot before they root.  You can also just bend that
sucker over (not cuting it off), and cover it with dirt.  Then a new plant
will start right next to the mother.
