blinds as markers

I didn't have miniblinds, but when the idea came up a couple of months ago, 
thought I'd try it. We have some regular venetian blinds and I cut them 
into plant markers. They do cut easily with scissors, and are a lot more 
flexible than I though, too. I like the bigger ones because I can put the 
date planted, and more info on the marker. It seems to be lasting.
When I birth out my baby goats, a breed that all looks alike, I'd have an 
impossible task telling which kids came from what dam. So, I use pvc pipe 
cut into 2" sections. I write the mom's name on it and string it on a light 
weight chain for a baby collar. THEN, because the kids are going to be 
mouthing and rubbing the permanent markers aren't so permanent, I spray 
over the writing with a light coat of baby-safe clear acrylic paint.
SO, my point is for more permanent plantings, you could do the same. Spray 
clear paint over your marking stakes and the writing will last a lot 
longer.
