Sounds pretty normal to me. Be sure to pick while the skin is still shiny.
Bitter skin flavor can be neutralized by sprinkling salt on the raw slices,
let it set for 30 minutes, then rinse off the salt. This year I grew some
odd varieties from Johnny's (Kermit & Comprido Verde Claro) and Burpee
(Purple Blush). Also had some old Easter Egg seed. All grew very well and
looked like the pictures in the catalog. These varieties seem a little
bland compared with Black Beauty and Ichiban. -Olin, Phoenix AZ
