Re: bottom watering

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Howdy ;

 Watering from the bottom is giving the plant it's water supply from the
bottom, instead of pouring water on from the top. This is only done with
potted plants. Bottom watering usually has the pot raised up in a pan or
tray about a 1/4 inch or so. Water is then put in the pan or tray up past
the bottom of the pot. Capillary action will cause the water to moisten the
soil in the pot giving the plant its water. That is a good way to introduce
fertilizer (compost tea) without burning the foliage. This also stimulates
deep root growth.

Hope that helps a little.

Please don't kick me off your list serve for being so ignorant, how do
you water from the bottom? I am, as you can probably tell, brand new to
all of this.

Thanks!
