Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Thanks, Mary. Your answer made my day. I have a 20 by 4 raised bed and I always planted tomatoes
1 per 2' by 2' (or 4 sq f). This year though I got a lot of heirloom tomatoes to try and I had
first planned on 20 of them, but by planting them only a foot apart by 2 feet on the other side,
I could double the varieties. Mel explains that you can get the same production from several
stems of 1 plant as from 1 stem of several plants. In theory it makes sense, but I wanted to know
if anyone had done this with success before venturing. I also got bamboo sticks to grow them on,
so by having the bamboo a foot apart, I could even tie lateral branches to the neighbor bamboo,
if you see what I mean. Hurray, I am really getting excited now. Thanks again. I'll let you know
how it goes.
have a nice day.
Fran.
