Re: Protecting strawberries from birds

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I haven't tried it yet but have heard this works well, save the CDs that
arrive in the junkmail for AOL or Microsoft, or use some crappo game
ones that you'll never play again. Put a few poles in the strawberry
patch with a bird cage hook or something similar on them and use them to
suspend the CDs from. You'll need to put a bit of ribbon or fishline
through the hole of the CD, knotting both ends together so you can hang
it, sort of like a necklace or Christmas ornament. The CD will spin in
the wind and flash brightly, the birds are supposed to be quite annoyed
by it and will leave the berries alone.

I am saving up my CDs and will hang them out in about another month, my
strawberries are just starting to come out of dormancy and get new leaves.

Good Luck!

Trudi
