*Well, actually production falls of in 2-4 years. You can let a runner take
over repalcement duty. runners take fruiting energy. One runner per plant
tho save dough. Remove the parent every 2-3 years, and let the daughter or
grand daughter replace it allowing just 1 runner per plant.

>I do NOT intend to treat them as annuals, which means I will pinch off
runners UNLESS there's a plant I want to replace somewhere. With this
method, the strawberries can be more or less self-regenerating and should
last a number of years.

A very OT group, but very family, no flames, and digs well for a question, has
in Links (and in the Link description a Message # for a BIG strawberry Message
from the Listmama) a strawberry link, from a University, as I recall.

Spooner farms in Puyallap, WA...(wholesaler sent me the straw/rasp cat)
10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 inches. (42 rows...)

Key Points.:
SOIL: Slightly acid soil, not where tomatoes or potatoes were, no slopes,
fertile, well drained, 6-8 inch tilling.
RVC'g: If not planted, for a few days they may be stored at 28 F or a fridge,
don't freeze. Don't let them dry out. Not wet, nor dry.
PLANT: ROOTS STRAIGHT DOWN, CROWN LEVEL w /Top of ground. Recommended remove
flowers First year, to allow them to become established.
FERT: Do not over fertilize. Suggest 1/2 - 1 lb od 10-20-20 per 100 sq ft.
Use this BEFORE PLANTING... incorporate w soil. Again in July or Aug.
MAINT: No weeds. In colder climes, 3-6' straw mulch to protect crowns.

None the less. My Quinalt might go 2 diagonal in a sq ft.
Bill
