Re: strawberries

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Hello,

Hmmmm, strawberries are a whole bed kind of plant being that they are
perennial. You can fit 16 berry plants in a 4x4 sqft bed at 12 inch
spacings.
We set ours out at twelve inch spacings and pick off all blossoms the
first season. The plantswill then send out daughter plants. We allow 4
healthy plantlets to set down roots and make plants. These daughters
produce fruit 1 year after they appear. At that time we mark out the
daughters that produce the best fruit for our purposed. For us abundance
not size is the factor.
We renovate the bed the third year taking daughters plants from the
plants we marked that we liked and weed out all the rest. Work soil
amendments in and begin all over again our three year cycle. (warning use
a bright colored stake to mark your chosen plants)

Smitty in Connecticut zone 6
Kiss of the sun for pardon.
Song of the birds for mirth.
You're closer to GODS heart in a garden,
than any place else on earth.
