Square foot container gardening

Hello; I just joined the list.

In spite of my less-than-stellar record with houseplants, I have
decided to try my hand at vegetable gardening.  Because I live in an
apartment and have no yard, I'm attracted to both square foot
gardening and container gardening.

Most people seem to do container gardening in individual pots for
individual plants.  I was wondering if I could get a 4 x 4 container
from a hardware store, poke some holes in it for drainage, and do
square foot gardening in it as described in Mel B.'s book.  Does this
sound like a viable plan to the more experienced among you?

I've been doing research on the web today, and tonight I plan to
review my copy of _Square_Foot_Gardening_.  If all goes well, I will
probably try to get started this weekend.

Any easy tips or good references for a beginner like me?
