Melissa, You have to hand water, use soaker hoses set down under the plastic (my choice) or install drip irrigation over a hole. I don't use the plastic but an elderly (85) neighbor does so she doesn't have to weed. She hand waters with a looooonnng handled ladel. I'd use soaker hoses on a timer under the plastic since I go away for a few separate weeks in the summer.
