>to my plans and am more enthused the closer I can to planting season. I >wish I had some specific questions in mind, but I'm sure I'll come up with >some in the near future. > Are you getting frosts in Martinez? I live in San Francisco, and garden in Marin in Larkspur and haven't had a freeze all year, and have already put in cool spring crops, direct seeded. Of course, I'm no expert and they're not exactly up yet, but for a few beans:) However, I know my mother-in-law in Petaluma is still getting freezes cold enough to freeze the dog's water bowl solid. I guess we're living in a weird area of micro-climates:) At any rate, when I laid out the two boxes that I've planted so far I used nails and plain twine to make a grid. Since our boxes are 4'x12', I found it really useful in keeping track of where I was direct seeding (something I didn't do such a good job of last year and had resulting problems when it came around to figuring out what to weed). Have others found this sort of thing useful? Since this is a school garden that I'm working in, labeling for people to look at the garden is a goal. Does anyone have a creative, more permanent, but still changeable/portable way of marking their garden squares? TIA Regards, Laurie San Francisco (zone 10)
