grass under raised bed

Hi there,
If the grass is bermuda, I recommend weed cloth lining your bed. I have a
similar situation to yours, and my beds are 12" deep. Since the soil under
the beds is impermeable clay anyway, I don't feel too bad about lining them
with weed cloth, it's not like it blocks developing roots any more so than
the clay itself would. If I had not lined the beds with weed cloth, I'd
have beds full of bermuda by now. As it is, the bermuda still attempts to
sneak in the sides. It grows up between the side boards and the weedcloth.
You may want to dig a trench 6" deep, and set your boards/blocks down into
the trench to prevent the bermuda from growing into the bed through the sides.
