Hi Rhonda, Welcome!

I have two nocturnal male digging feline terrors. I recently planted my
first square foot, put short 1 X 2's at each corner and halfway down each
side, and covered it with bird netting I got at Home Depot. They did
step on it the first night, because I saw their tracks, only two sets.
But they didn't dig or use it as a litter box, even though it was
freshly turned and smelled a lot more interesting than the rest of
the garden. Now at night when I'm out there and they come in to
the garden, they skirt around the netting. I think their
claws get stuck in it. I think the netting might be cheaper and
easier to move around and reuse than chicken wire.

I started keeping a garden journal last year, in a special journal
my spousal equivalent got for me as a present. This year I'm using
a looseleaf notebook with 12 index dividers, one per month. I just
insert good old notebook paper and title it with the year, and just
take notes on whatever day I happen to do or notice something.
Hope this helps
