Banana peels and egg shells can definitely go in a compost bin. I
believe I've read that rabbit "drops" can go in because rabbits are
not carnivorous animals, but you should check on that because I
could be wrong.

There are different kinds of compost piles, some hot, some cold, etc.
To help the decomposition of the materials, it is always better to
make sure they're in relatively small pieces; however, I do not cut
up my peelings and egg shells. I put in most of my kitchen scraps
which are not meat/grease-laden (e.g., coffee grinds, veggie scraps,
peelings, egg shells, etc.) and do not grind them up.

I have heard that you can grind up these scraps in a blender with a
little water and use it for a liquid plant food. I've not tried this
on indoor plants, but it seems to work OK for outdoor plants. It's
kind of like making your own liquid Miracle-Gro.

> Where could I look for more info on composting? Web addresses?

I'm no expert on composting, but I do have several very nice Web
sites listed at my own gardening page. My URL is listed in my
signature below.

Hope this is useful,
Joan
