I use wall-o-waters with tomatoes. They work nicely. Am in Atlanta (7b) and already have flowers on 6 tomatoes in the ground (seeded 1/17/96) using the 'em. Soil temperature ranges from low of 65F to 88F. Our normal last frost date ranges between April 1-10; with "safe" planting time for tomatoes generally accepted as April 15. Am combining wall-o-waters with the red plastic mulch in another planting for tomatoes I'll be setting out Easter Weekend. I put the w-o-w on the ground about 10 days before I plant the tomato to let the soil temp increase. Am going to direct seed into some w-o-w, too to see how that does, too. Things I have to be careful of using w-o-water: 1) don't use too large a transplant...the leaves will get badly mushed, cooked, etc. from contact with the inside plastic, 2) make sure to open up the top (e.g., don't let the tepee become an oven) when it's sunny and warm. Catharine/Atlanta, zone 7b
