At this point I do not use fertilizer other than Compost and Fish Emulsion. I
use no-till methods on almost every bed now, and it seems to be working very
well. I alternate between layers of fresh mulch on the beds and layers of mostly
composted stuff. I do root feeding of fish emulsion during fruiting periods and
when I transplant something.
I haven't done any soil testing, mostly because I would have to do a separate
test for each square. Depending on when I work on a square it may get Camphor
Leaves, Oak Leaves, Pine Straw, grass clippings or any combination thereof.
I am what I call a Rational Organic Gardener. By that I mean that I am NOT
organic so that I can be 'in harmony with the Universe', I am organic so that my
home and food will be safe for my little boy. If a situation arises where NOT
using 'chemicals' is more dangerous than using them, as in Fire Ant invasions, I
am likely to use pesticides, just not right on the veggies!
