Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I have a pretty serious back problem caused by a fall down a flight of
stairs. This is one of the reasons I used to use raised beds. Although the
Physical Therapy is finally showing some results three years later (Ask me
why worker's comp laws should be changed) I still have major problems doing
a lot of the work.
I bring a full chair out to the garden with me. Not a stool or one of those
plastic yard chairs, a real chair. The one I use is light, but has a real
back. Sometimes I use it to lean on, some times I get the things I am
working on and put them in a tray on my lap and just plain sit in the chair.
I sometimes feel like a wimp, being as how I am a 43 year old man who has
Black Belts in three arts and used to race bicycles for money. But at a
certain point I had to realize that either I could be in pain and neglect my
garden, or I could accommodate my injury and be able to enjoy my garden.
I also have a bunch of half sized tools which I can use while sitting if
need be. I usually end up kneeling to use them, but I could use them in the
chair if I got feeling a little sore. I have a Ames Shovel that is about 3
feet long and has a 'D' handle which I use for almost everything.
