Re: Gardening for elderly

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Though I'm not elderly (yet), I realized that the way I garden would be
ideal for someone with back problems, etc. I garden in raised beds (2
feet high by 8 feet long by 4 feet wide). The raised bed has a lip on
it which allows me to very comfortably sit on the edge. Since it's high
up off the ground I can sit on it without having to bend my knees much
and it's really easy to get back up too. Since the beds are only 4 feet
across, I can comfortably reach across them without having to lean too
far over. And you can't beat the square foot method for ease of
planting, digging and harvesting! The other great thing about my bed
structure is that since it's raised up the plants are at more eye level,
which allows much easier harvesting and allows me to notice pests and
diseases much quicker than if the plants were on the ground.

Good luck.
