Pepper Sprouts Disappearing

I have planted peppers indoors and after about 2 weeks there were about
15 sprouts, some even had little leaves!!  The next day I looked and
there was nothing!  I could only find 1 "stalk" I then saw a little white
slug like thing in the planter box.  Is this little guy getting a free
lunch?  I planted the peppers in compost only.  Any ideas?
