How long have you been in Oregon ? Hehe.  Slugs can and do eat seedlings
overnight, I lost about 75 outside my first spring here four years ago.
Maybe you had slug eggs in your compost, it's one reason why I am still
buying seed starting mix, I couldn't stand to have the slugs indoors as well
! I use Escar-go to get ahead of the ravaging hordes but still hand pick
them and search out eggs to destroy.
