Re: Mushroom Compost

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I did, years ago. Our neighbor had his own corn that he saved from seed
year after year (probably a Golden Bantam type) and gave us seed, asking us
to grow only that. We used mushroom compost that year (it was cheap for us
- we were close to a mushroom grower and the value of it for the garden
wasn't known by many in those days). The corn grew so big (over 7 feet
versus about 4 feet for the unfertilized stuff next door) that the neighbor
was SURE we had planted something else and had contaminated his corn seed.
The ears on ours were larger and there were more, but it has been too many
years to be very acccurate. Suffice it to say, the mushroom compost made a
big difference.
