We store our ashes in a big can, and then when I need them, I add
them. I do add some to the compost pile, but I do it in moderation,
and I was told that they are nitrogen deficient, and not too much
should be added at one time. I kept alot of the ashes because I
had a big problem with cuke beetles and squash bugs last year. I
was told that the ashes can help as a deterrent, so am going to try
that this year.
