To be honest, I'm not real sure what charcoal and ashes does for a
garden. Perhaps someone else on the list would know. It was part of the
ingredients for good soil in Mel's book, I am pretty sure. It does
help with the ants too. It really seems to work in getting rid of them
when I put some on top of the ant hills.
