Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I got some Moonbright Sunflower seeds:
"A pollenless variety. Moonbright is a lemon yellow sunflower with a brown,
almost black, center reaching 8" across. Plants are 6 feet tall,
well-branching, can be pinched to produce one larger flower. They were
developed for the purpose of cutting as there is no trace of pollen to be
left
on the table. "
I'm trying to figure out if I can put any in my square foot gardens. I have
two beds, 4 foot by 10 foot each with a trellis at the north end of each.
Currently I have peas running up both trellises and will add beans and
maybe a watermelon when there is room. In the west bed, adjacent to the
trellis squares are 2 tomatoes alternating with blank squares in one bed,
and next to them are two other tomatoes checkerboarding. In the east bed I
have tomato, broccoli (that clearly isn't going to do anything), tomato,
and kale (that also probably isn't going to do anything), adjacent to the
trellis, then nothing in the next areas.
So the question is: Would I be sorry if I put a couple of sunflowers in
here? Would they to okay interspersed with those tomatoes in the west bed?
In a row of their own in the east bed?
