I can't tell you size, actually I'm hoping someone else can, as I just put in 3 2-year roots into a 2'x4' framed raised bed and am hoping that will be enough space. However, if you haven't grown asparagus before, I can tell you it is A. Perennial (so plan its location carefully - you'll be living with it for a long time if you're lucky! Also prepare the soil carefully with lots of fertilizer, organic matter, etc. since you won't have another chance to really till in the good stuff. B. years before harvest. The best I could find was 2-year-old roots, which means no harvest until next year. Don't rush harvesting what looks edible in the first year, because you'll severely stunt the plant's further growth. I bought my roots from Hummert's Intl, which is a mail order company but happens to be located here in St. Louis with a retail store. They gave me a handy asparagus planting info sheet. Hopefully wherever you get your plants from will do the same. Melissa S.
