I use floating row covers. Most plants don't need support for the first few
weeks I'm using the covers, but the more tender ones, I just simply take old
wire coathangers, untwist them, shape them into U-shaped hoops and set them
over the plants in a tent fashion (pushing them into the dirt to hold them in
place). Works just fine (until the plants are taller than the hoops anyway
(but by then, I take the covers off anyway).
