First Question:
RE: Plants around raised beds.
Suggestions as of May 7: Use Thyme, Helxine, Purple Clover or Dutch
clover.
Question from Al Brandenburg:
Sounds interesting. Do you get a lot of weeds in the clover?
Answer:
The clover should be planted very thickly. But even so there will be
a number of weeds until the clover becomes thick enough. By the
second year the perennial clover should keep most of the weeds down.
However, one should avoid walking barefoot between the beds when the
clover is in flower as the bees might give one a sting. Note: A
friend tried doing stripe patterns of white and purple clover is his
garden paths.
I am not familiar with Helxine. It is found in Europe also?
Thyme looks quite nice around bricks and the roots of thyme do quite
well under rocks and bricks. I might suggest a few different
varieties of thyme to add some color. Unfortunately my thyme does not
like to be walked on.
