My experience with mint has not been so fun,so you may want to think about it before you do that. It has managed to send underground runners right under and between everything and it could very possibly work it's way into your beds, so be very careful. Once it gets a foothold it's very hard to eradicate. You have to dig all those underground roots back out to get rid of it. Just my thoughts. Anyone else had luck with mint as a footpath?
