I don't know what the weather is like where you live, but here in West
Texas it gets very hot and very dry (we have to do twice as much water as
mel recommends).  Anyway, peppers grow pretty good here, but the dry heat
can be hard on them so a fellow gardener suggested placing a bowl of
water between the pepper plants so when it evaporates the peppers get
some of the moisture (like creating humidity).  We have 3 sweet banana
pepper plants planted in a group (one per square) and we tried placing a
bowl of water in the middle of the three and they are producing blooms.
If you have a problem with dry air you might give it a try.  It should
work for anyone in the pepper family.  Some good hot peppers for this
area are serranos, habaneros, and hot banana peppers.  Hope this helps.
