NO, NO, NO! (Sorry for yelling--i know pruning the first set of leaves will
kill bean plants; don't know about tomatoes, but it probably won't be good.)

You prune the little sprouts that sprout in the "V" between the leaf stems
and the main vine.

P.S. How do i know about the beans? My fine furry four-footed "friends"
pruned them off for me. :-O
