It might work if he can shade them a bit in the afternoon especially.  Last
year our tomato cages and their rampant contents  shhielded the pea's trellis
and we were harvesting until late july.
ps.   We planted our  pole/bush beans 2 weeks ago and they are almost 3-4
inches tall......go for it!!!!!!!
