I have had good results by sprinkling dried (instant) oats in the ants path.
In a couple of days they will start to eat it. Then when they drink water the
oats expand and pow the ant dies. Since they take the food to the queen she
gets killed too. I have used this twice. The first time I got rid of the
ants. I just set down the oats for the latest outbreak in another part of my
yard so it will be a couple of weeks before I know if it worked the second
time. It's cheap, clean and seems to do the job.
