In a message dated 97-05-29 07:52:06 EDT, you write: << Another thing I have noticed about aphids, the ants are the ones taking care of them. If you watch them they will lead you to their nest. Sometimes, the nest is under the plant.... Keeping it moist (sloshy) for two days does a good job of running them off. If you keep bothering them, they keep moving someplace else >> I have had good results by sprinkling dried (instant) oats in the ants path. In a couple of days they will start to eat it. Then when they drink water the oats expand and pow the ant dies. Since they take the food to the queen she gets killed too. I have used this twice. The first time I got rid of the ants. I just set down the oats for the latest outbreak in another part of my yard so it will be a couple of weeks before I know if it worked the second time. It's cheap, clean and seems to do the job. Kurt McCullum (Glendale, CA Zone 9) It was 103 yesturday. Had to water twice! *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
