Re: Mulch

Sheila asked:
What kind of mulch would you use on veggie gardens?

My answer:
I have used straw and grass. The straw should be 5-8 inches to be
effective. But I have found that it blows away quickly after being placed in
the garden. I'll have straw everywhere but in my garden.
Grass has been a wonderful mulch. It is attractive, doesn't blow away
(only needs to be 3 inches thick, and is a wonderful nitrogen additive to my
soil. Also, it is FREE. My neighbors leave garbage bags filled with grass
clippings in my driveway for me after they have mowed. Wha-hoo!!

Sincerely,
Lorrie
