well, i've done exactly this, the hard way-with a shovel, loading it into a
pickup. it's alot of work (and maybe it's worth it) but i've got to say it
sounded like a better idea BEFORE i actually did it. Fortunately i had a
small garden at the time, and a very accomodating SO. as for the statement
"...That will be no more work than bringing in new soil", remember most
large scale soil providers will have a backhoe to do the hard work of
loading the truck bed AGAINST gravity. Unloading is easy 'cause you're
working WITH gravity!
on the plus side, i've had two seasons now of a thriving garden which i
like to attribute to all the compost, worms and natural fertilizers that i
moved to my new garden bed...Food for thought.
