I have several 4'X4' raised beds. This in not only good for rotation, it
also allows one to place vertical trellis' at the north edge of each bed,
which, if beds are appropriately spaced, shades nothing but pathway (5'
spacing in north/south direction, more e/w if you live at 47N, as I do.)
If you have only 1 or 2 beds, run your trellis' in a north/ south direction.
Plants on trellis can then have either AM or PM sun.
Spacing will depend on Latitude, higher/wider, lower/closer.
There is a web site at which you can find the sun angle for a particular day
at your Lat. I find it useful to know the angle at Summer Solstice and at
last and first frost dates the web site is:
www.crest.org/staff/ceg/sunangle/
Have fun.
