Yes, I am planting lettuce in with the tomatoes and peppers.... but 
what I looked deeper into about the eggplant is that they tend to 
have deeper roots than do peppers, so you can plant eggplant amoung 
your peppers and they won't compete for the nutrients in the 
soil..... I may be way off about this, but according to the books I 
have, it says that it works. Transplanted peppers are shallow 
rooters, and eggplant are "intermediate" rooters. So as long as the 
peppers are still 12 inches apart, and the eggplant 24 inches apart, 
you can have an eggplant 6 inches from a pepper...... now, I haven't 
seen this work firsthand, but I figure it's worth a shot..... I am 
not doing the intercropping with everything, just trying different 
combinations in different plots..... if someone has tried this and it 
doesn't work, then tell me now! Otherwise, I am going to just leave 
it and see!
