Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Those all sound like big plants in small slots to me. Maybe if you could
convince the tomatoes to lean outward of the beds, they won't take up so
much room but a tomato cage is a large obstacle for a pepper to grow under.
And eggplant are big leaf plants also.
I planted basil in the centers of 4 tomato plants, staked the plants and
pruned the interior limbs so they'd grow out, and I'm still having trouble
keeping the basil from being too shaded. These are 2' squares with a
tomato in each corner. Thought I could get away with snipping the basil
awhile before the tomato shaded them out, but it's not really working.
The lettuce: I let my early lettuce bolt to seed. I like it, it's OP
variety, and I wanted to save seed for next time. Normally by now it's no
problem to get enough dry days to let the seeds dry on the stems. But,
we've had cool temps and rain almost daily, and I don't know exactly when
to pull the stalks to cure out the seed.
