Re: Speaking of Trellises

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Sorry Bill, I must have missed the discussion about the trellised yellow
squash in the begining. Was that regular crookneck or straight neck plain ol
yellow squash or was it a special kind? That's an amazing picture you drew
in my mind. I am hoping to grow as many varieties of squash vertically this
year, but I'm not sure which kind will and which won't(except I tried it with
zuccini one year in a cage and it didn't like it at all)trellis. I'd
appreciate any advice on this.
Sorry to dump two subjects under one heading: this is even off veggies, but I
think many of you may be as good with flowers and veggies. I have planted a
butterfly bush two years in a row and they do well from spring to fall and in
the next spring they are a stick. They were pruchased at a local nursery and
are supposed to be hardy here in Utah. Should I be covering them in the
winter. Should I feed them something special. I have had the same problem
with snowball bushes and hydranga's. After 4 attempts I have a snowball
bush that made it through the winter and is blooming as we speak--so to
speak. Also bleeding hearts bite the dust two. Does anyone see a pattern
here--the ph of my soil? They were all planted in appropriate light, but the
soil is clay and top soil with a lost of orgainic matter.
Just one more thing: I want to thank all of you who have given me
information in the past---I have not alway acknowledged it , but I am very
grateful. I also enjoy each of your varried personalities, humors and
generous spirits.
Hat's all(isn't it enough)for now,
Bonnie Christensen Mt. zone5
