Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Tracy,
I live in an urban neighborhood with large populations of ferel cats and
crows, both of which love to poop in or pillage lovely raised beds.
I use 36" wide, 1" mesh chicken wire, cut into 6' lengths, 2 of which are
bound together to form a 6' X 6' piece and laid over the bed. The wire
retains enough memory of being rolled up to form a nice bow the long way and
you fold the sides down, fold tucks at the corners and you gave a great cage
over the bed.
You may find it easier to lay down 2 3' pieces side by side and tie them
together in place. This bow arrangement is intrinsically sturdy enough to
use as a support for clear plastic covering early in the season.
I plan to build light frames, the same size as the top of the bed, to which
I shall staple the chicken wire and the clear plastic to form a mini green
house for early in the season, remove the plastic when warm weather arrives,
leaving a car/bird proof cage 'till the plants get strong enough to not be
vulnerable.
Try it, I like it!
