It would help if we knew where you are located and what temp zone you are in,
but the best thing is to check with your cooperative extension people and find
out for sure about when the borer stops laying eggs in your area.

Then start your vines indoors a few weeks  earlier than that and plant them out
under floating row covers which should be removed when it is time for
pollination.
