We have 15  4' x 10' beds and have planted grass between them.  Our
paths are wide enough to allow for the push mower to  clear it in 2
passes.  I pull any thing I can't mow off or take the weed eater to it.
Works great and looks neat.  Deany, zone 4 / WI
