I've been most impressed with lettuce, indeterminate tomatoes, and winter
squash. Common sense tells me carrots and onions would be especially
efficient with the sqft method, but i didn't grow these before i discovered
the method. (Carrots--that is, if i can get them to sprout!)

That's the way i do it. I use a stake to keep the cage from tipping over,
but otherwise my opinion of stakes is the same as Mel's.
I don't put perennials in the square foot garden, but that's just my preference.
