It's not so much keeping the boards in place (for that you'll need to
stake them as Bill described, or attach them to each other in the
corners) as keeping the grass out. I'd bury them at least an inch below
soil (not grass) level, if not two. Depends how aggressive your grass
is.

An alternative to stakes is to use a section of angle-iron on the
outside corners (see plan view, below). This is what I'll be using when
my stakes rot out (which they will do along time before the sides give
up).
