Holly, I never use vermiculite for one very good reason--it's too expensive a material to use in the quantity Mel suggests. I use lots of peat moss, cow manure, shredded leaves and compost. The combo makes wonderful soil that is full of microbial activity--which is very important to the health of all plants. BTW, if I see another slice of turkey or pumpkin pie, I'm turning into a vegetarian!! Doreen Howard
