It depends on what you are starting ... many plants benefit from
repotting, even several times before setting out. Tomatoes, i.e..
On the other hand I often start seeds in individual pots .. several
seeds to a pot ... and thin each pot down to only one plant later.
You didn't say what you did wrong that Nancy Bubel's book neglected to
mention, so I am unable to comment on that.
